The Connection Manager is a central workspace in KOS Studio that serves two essential functions: monitoring your running images and connections, and providing access to powerful development tools for those running instances.
Every image executed through KOS Studio appears in the Connection Manager as a running instance. From this interface, you can monitor the current status of each run, stop active images, restart stopped connections, and launch various tools designed to accelerate your embedded device development workflow.
A key capability of the Connection Manager is its ability to connect directly to KOS devices on your network. This enables you to run the same suite of development tools whether your image is running on a simulator in KOS Studio or deployed on a physical device.
Available Tools
The Connection Manager provides access to the following tools for running images on simulators, physical devices, or network-connected KOS devices:
Config Viewer: View and modify device image configuration settings in real-time, enabling quick adjustments without redeployment.
API Browser: Explore the currently active APIs available on your device or simulator in real-time, making it easier to understand available endpoints and functionality.
Terminal: Access your simulator or device through an integrated SSH terminal, providing native command-line interaction.
Beverage Graph Viewer: Visualize beverage graphs and associated notes to quickly diagnose issues such as beverage pump unavailability and related problems.
Future Tracer: Track and debug futures and their child futures, helping you understand asynchronous operations in your application.
Web Socket Viewer: Monitor socket communications between various services on your device, enabling real-time debugging of network interactions.
Manifest Viewer: Examine the active result manifest on your device to verify and troubleshoot installed software versions.
Ingredient Assignment: Assign ingredients from your brand to the holders associated with your device image for testing beverage configurations.
Working with Running Images
View Running Images
Every image launched from My Images appears in the Connection Manager with its current operational status.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- The My Images and Connection Manager windows display automatically
- Select an image from My Images
- Choose your target environment (simulator or physical device IP address)
- Click the run icon to execute the image
- Monitor the image status in the Connection Manager
Important Notes:
- Each running instance displays separately based on its target environment
- The status field indicates the current state: downloading artifacts, errors, connected, etc.
- Active tools associated with each image are listed beneath the instance
- You can only start new tools or view data from existing tools when the image status shows “connected”
View Installing Images
When you install an image to a physical device, the Connection Manager tracks the installation progress.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- The My Images and Connection Manager windows display automatically
- Select an image from My Images
- Choose the target device IP address for installation
- Click the more options menu and select “Toggle Install”
- Click the install button to begin installation
- Monitor the installation status in the Connection Manager
Important Notes:
- Each installation instance displays separately based on the target device
- The status field shows progress: downloading artifacts, errors, installed, etc.
- KOS Studio disconnects automatically during the device reboot following installation
- Since the connection ends after installation, you cannot launch tools directly from the installation instance
- To access tools, establish a new connection to the device using its IP address
Stop a Running Image
You can stop any running image directly from the Connection Manager.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- Locate the running image in the Connection Manager window
- Select the image you want to stop
- Click the stop image icon
Important Notes:
- Tools associated with stopped images will not receive new data updates
- Some tools may still display historical data from when the connection was active
- Stopping an image disconnects the connection to the target environment
Restart a Stopped Image
Resume a stopped image to continue development without reconfiguring your environment.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- Locate the stopped image in the Connection Manager window
- Select the image you want to restart
- Click the run image icon
Important Notes:
- Tools associated with the image will resume updating with new data once the connection is reestablished
Delete a Stopped Image
Remove stopped images from the Connection Manager to keep your workspace organized.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- Locate the stopped image in the Connection Manager window
- Select the image you want to delete
- Click the delete image icon
Important Notes:
- You cannot delete running images; they must be stopped first
- All tools associated with the deleted image are removed automatically
- Any open tool windows for the deleted image close immediately
Working with Device Connections
Start a New Connection
Connect directly to a KOS device on your network to access development tools without running an image from KOS Studio.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- The My Images and Connection Manager windows display automatically
- In the Connection Manager, locate the connection input box
- Enter either the device IP address or the device name saved in Node Discovery
- Monitor the connection status in the Connection Manager
Important Notes:
- Each connection instance displays separately based on the target device
- The status field indicates the connection state: connecting, errors, connected, etc.
- Once connected, you can launch any available tool for that device
Start a Tool for an Image or Connection
Launch development tools for any running image or connected device.
Steps:
- Log into KOS Studio
- Select a running image or connected device from the Connection Manager
- Click “Start a tool”
- Select the desired tool from the available options
- The tool opens in a new window
Tool Window Management:
- Bring a tool window to the front using the “view window” icon
- Hide a tool window using the “hide window” icon
- Close a tool permanently using the “X” button next to the tool name
